About Us

Light and Salt Services Austin (LSSA, also known as the Christian Servanthood Foundation) is a registered 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization whose mission is to unite the manpower and resources of the Austin Chinese community to serve local communities in need, both Chinese and non-Chinese alike. All the events of LSS are non-religious, non-political, and non-profit.

- 2008  LSSA founded.

- 2010  LSSA established the Cancer Support Network to help eliminate the stigma around cancer and provide culturally-sensitive support. This support network includes group meeting, helpline, follow-up phone calls, home and hospital visits, healthcare and social services navigation, treatment-related services, transportation, and language assistance.

- 2012 LSSA began sponsoring small groups for cancer support, a library for cancer resources, and promotion of prevention/treatment of cancer with the support of the Cancer Prevention Research Institute of Texas.

- 2014 LSSA became part of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services program to promote and provide free assistance for ACA marketplace application.

 

Services and resources for the Asian community, focused on but not limited to medicine, health, legal, financial, and tax issues

- Hosting a variety of seminars for the community- Sponsoring support groups

- Sponsoring multiple annual events, including a Health Fair, summer intern program, and health and education classes for seniors

- Cancer support program provides culturally-sensitive support through group meetings, a helpline, follow-up phone calls, home and hospital visits, healthcare and social services navigation, treatment-related services, transportation, and language assistance

- Free assistance with enrollment and ongoing support for ACA Marketplace application. Medicare, Medicaid, and CHIP- Working with HeartGift Foundation, which brings children from around the world for free to correct life-threatening congenital heart defects

- Education and outreach to the local Asian community to encourage participation in the 2020 Census

 

The Affordable Care Act (ACA) has helped a large portion of the Asian community to gain insurance coverage, saving thousands of lives and strengthening the healthcare system. We provide enrollment services and ongoing support services that have helped our clients get, keep, and use their healthcare coverage.

 

Cancer support and community-based health education on cancer prevention demonstrated improvement  in the number of people who get screening for early cancer detection.

  

Our culturally-sensitive services and resources have built trust within our local community. Improving our capability through ongoing training and collaboration has enabled us to provide more and better services. Being there for them over a long period of time has developed an ongoing cumulative relationship with the community.
